I got this while trying to install the java sdk5 update3 on a CentOS(most recent version -just downloaded last week) box. I dumped the bin into /usr/local/java and ran it. It hangs on an error and I end up having to manually kill the install process. This is the output I received:

Work around! I found you can disable memory checking in glibc by setting an environment variable. Just do (for bash) "export MALLOC_CHECK_=0" and then run the installer. Not sure if the memory corruption really exists or if its a bug with glib.. but this gets you past it.
Hi,
I faced the same problem while installing the JDK on RHEL 4.0. It was <probably> because there was a JRE already installed in the system.
I ran the bin file with -javahome pointing to the location of installed JRE.
It worked.
Hope its of some help.
