What processors are running in the Dell Poweredge? Are they Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 processors by any chance? We are having difficulty installing Solaris 10 11/06 on our platform running with these processors.

That procedure at:
www.bobx.com/solaris_x86/solaris-9-x86-on-dell-1850.html

Will not work on the 2900 or 2950 on either the RAID or HBA/non-RAID mode.

1950's and 2950's work well in Solairs 10.

You'll need Solairs U3 at least as it has an updated mpt driver for the newer LSI 1680. The networking however is not included. There are two ways to install then:

1. Install without network, download driver and add from cd after system is up and running.
2. Install using a ITU cd image.

Alternately if you have a Jumpstart server, use Solaris U3 and rebuild the x86.miniroot with the Broadcom driver built in ;)

In raid mode - I dont think so. The problem isnt with the PERC in non-RAID mode, the problem is when the PERC 5/i is in raid mode.

I wonder when there will be a PERC 5/i or Intel SRCSAS144e or any LSI MegaRAID driver for solaris. Seems mfi is the only option right now.

LSI is offering a driver now, get it here:

http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/products_home/internal_raid/megaraid_sas/megaraid_sas_8344elp/index.html?locale=EN&remote=1

This is also a driver for the Intel SRCSAS144E.

Shame on LSI, Dell, Sun and Intel for so poorly supporting these SAS HBAs on Solaris. Intel is soldering the 1078 controllers on motherboards and giving Solaris users the big FU for some reason.

Note to Sun: please make a solaris-supported mega_sas driver.

LSI has a new Solaris driver, 1.23:

http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/products_home/internal_raid/megaraid_sas/megaraid_sas_8888elp/index.html?locale=EN&remote=1

I dont know about mfi or mega_sas, but one of these two is probably going to be in for Solaris 10 u6
