hi there,
I've just installed Solaris 10 and have not been prompted to enter a root password in the installation process.
Now that I have booted up for the first time, what is the initial root password?
best regards,
Gabriel
In the unlikely event that you have not provided or have not been able to provide a password, I suggest to reinstall S10.
To my knowledge there is no default password, but you might try to log in as root and for password type just the <enter> key.
If you donot know the password. You can always boot of the cdrom, mount the root partition, clear out the encrypted password in the shadow file.
Then you should be able to restart the box and log in as root from the console without providing any password
I have sort of a similar problem. I installed Solaris 10 and dont recall being asked to establish a root password. Anyhow, on the log in screen I just type root in the username and click OK and I'm in. It never asked me to enter password. Now that I want to create accounts, etc. , in the Solaris Management Control, I am prompted with a username/password screen. Well, I enter root again and leave password blank, but it tells me login failed.
Anybody know what i'm doin wrong?

I had this problelm, go to the command prompt in a terminal window, type psswd root and choose a new password. Worked for me! Now if I could only get Sol 10 to recognize my NIC!

Okay i cannot get into this fresh solaris 10 install with root and
password blank, i was asked for a username but not a password..
help anyon eplease?
If you forget the root password please do the following:
1)Have the solaris 10 cd in your CDROM and then type the following command in OK prompt
ok>boot cdrom -s
2)Then the system will boot in to single user mode
3)After the system gets in to single user mode make a directory like /temp.{mkdir /temp}
4)mount the root directory in to the /temp.{mount /dev/dsk/c0t?d?s0 /temp}
5)Then go to /temp.{cd /temp}
6)vi /etc/shadow
7)you would be able to change the root password,delete the password and save the file.
8)reboot the system and you will be able to login in to system with username as root and it wont ask you for password.
9)then go to a terminal and then type {passwd root} and set a password for root.
Dont have your root password as blank.It will cause you problems.So after you login with the user name as root,set a password for the root.
