Hi,
I am attempting to install a downloaded copy of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe but after 'copying new files' I get "Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for the installation is corrupt and cannot be used..." I can install j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe without any trouble but not this version. I have the following:
Have you been able to resolve this yet? I have seen the same problem trying to install 1.4.2_03 on
Windows XP Home Ed. I Also have tried installing 1.5.0 Beta and gotten this same error. In short,
I have spent 2 solid days unable to get ANY version of Java to install on either my Win XP nor my
Win2000 machine for various errors - of which I only mentioned the pertinent one here.
If you did find a solution, I would much like to hear it. Byte counts seem to be OK, and downloading
again never helps. Thanks.
I'm also getting this error on Win XP Home. Have downloaded the file numerous times (including using the Sun Download Manager). Getting error 1335 EVERY time - it's driving me crazy. Any ideas?
A few things:
In one similar forum item, the person said even installing from a CD didn't help, so it clearly isn't
always caused by a "bad" download. In fact, in our case, I suspect that it is something else. I searched
google for "data1.cab corrupt" and got a lot of interesting stuff mostly related to the InstallerWizard.
But as long as we do the "offline" installation, this contains the latest version of the Installer needed.
We should have no problem. I'm going to search some more on what could corrupt the cab file on
the MS web site.
Another suggestion would be to log a real bug report since you clearly can show that you can install
one version but not another ! There is a link to do this somewhere in the install instructions for each
downdload. It says if you have problems you can log a bug.
Please keep me informed. I'm ripping what little hair I have left out. Thanks.
I got around this problem by doing a clean boot you can find the process here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310353
good luck!
I think this is the problem. Go to this website... http://www.java.com/en/download/help/download_error_codes.jsp
There you should download and install the ~14.6 MB Offline package for JRE from the link at the bottom of the page. This should fix everything hopefully. Worked for me.
Downloading the net installer version does not help - the cab file is still in the wrong format for many Windows 2000 platforms (don't know about XP). I have extracted the full download, and have found the temp files downloaded by the net installer, and the results are the same. Data1.cab and Data2.cab are not valid cab files, and will not be installed.
I'd really like to see Sun take this seriously, and have a version of the j2sdk for my Windows 2000 machine. Since cab formats won't work, why not a zip? Or even a gzipped tar file? "cab" is just an unreliable format.
Please help! I'm desperate to get back to Java programming!
Hi
i have the same problem on windows 2000 advanced server on an ordinary PC platform, but not on Windows XP on Compaq. should be there any solution or patch, let everybody know.
Clean boot didnt work for me. Not sure what to do. Tried various versions from 1.4.0- 1.4.2.03, but no dice. Pretty damn frustrating to be unable to even install.
I had the same problem and, at last, I found it was a hardware failure. Memory Dimms installed on socket 2 and 3 instead of 1 and 2 in my ASUS a7v8x-x
perhaps that helps.
