Driver update disabled higher video resolutions
Feb 17, 2007 9:17 AM

A friend recommended that I update the bios and drivers on my ultra 20 m2 (A88-GGZ1-AA-2GBGA), that runs Solaris 10 11/06, to get rid of some excessive fan noise.

I downloaded the tools_and_drivers 1.5 disk and updated the bios. This solved my noise problem, but I think the driver update screwed up my X server's configuration files.

Before the machine rebooted, my screen was running at 1600x1200 and had been for some time. I had a number of other resolution choices, too. After the machine rebooted, the screen opens at 640x480 and it is the only resolution available...

I really like doing development at 1600x1200 and need to find out how to restore my server's resolution.

Thanks,
vbk

Hi
What X server are you running?

Xsun?
go to text console and run kdmconfig
This will go through the detection and config of Xsun.

Xorg?
check your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section screen
You should have 1600x1200 in Modes entry.

Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1920x1200" "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection

Thanks for the pointers.

To be honest, I don't know what X server the system was using before I used our software to update the drivers. I don't know what server the system is using now.

How would I find out which server is running?

Thanks,
vbk
