The following information is intended to aid in the understanding and support of the
EOL and shutdown of the Sun Update Connection Hosted platform.
Q) What is happening to the Sun Connection hosted platform?
A) Sun Connection hosted platform will be End-of-Lifed (EOL) on March 1, 2008. This decision only impacts customers using the hosted portion of this service.
Q) Does this impact my Sun Update Manager or smpatch usage?
A) No, this does not impact single system users of smpatch or Sun Update Manager. You will still be able to receive updates via Sun Update Manager, smpatch and Sun Update Connection Enterprise.
Q) What should I do if I am using the Sun Connection hosted platform?
A) We suggest that you check your systems to ensure the Sun Connection Hosted
transport mechanism is disabled.
Q) How do I disable the transport mechanism?
A) There are several ways to disable the transport mechanism on your system:
1) Disable Hosted Management functionality from the client
a) From a terminal window on the target client system, su to root
b) Execute the following command to shutdown the local Hosted daemons:
2) You can disable the transport mechanism from Update Manager to
Sun Connection hosted by applying the patch 121081-08 (sparc) or
121082-08 (x86). Applying this patch will automatically perform the actions
described in option 2 above if necessary.
Q) What will happen if I do not disable the transport mechanism?
A) You may see logging from the transport daemon in the /var/adm/messages regarding failure to send messages, additionally there may be some backlog of messages in the related queue directories in /var/tmp related to these messages that can't be sent.
