java version "1.6.0_11"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing)
IE7/Vista Home Basic (SP1, ITA, x86) all fully updated.
If the ActiveX plugin for IE7 named 'Java (tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper' (jp2ssv.dll) is enabled, IE7 takes 3-4 seconds to open every new tab. A very boring delay.
If I disable that ActiveX control only, everything works fine at the expected speed, both Java web-based pages and IE7.
What's this ActiveX for? And why it causes long 3-4 secs delay when enabled?

I can confirm this issue.
Issue can be reproduced with XP and Vista and IE7 and IE8 beta. Also, older Java versions across the board are having the same issu.

Feel free and let me know the link so I will vote.
I've sent Sun this bug report 2 weeks ago. Never got a reply confirming the bug-opening :(
I'm afraid was ignored.

Same bug reproduced here on Vista64 and IE8. Latest java JRE to date (JRE 6 update 14). Machine is a 3.6Ghz Core2 Duo with 4GB RAM. After disabling "Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper" jp2ssv.dll from IE add-ons the problem disappears.
Note: Every time you open a new tab or launch IE8 you notice using Task Manager that ssvagent.exe hogs the processor to almost 80%. The problem gets even worst when you open several new times at the same time using the middle mouse button over links on a web page.
It's worrying that the issue has been reported almost a year ago and nothing has been done yet to fix it.

Yes, unfortunately Sun support is very very very very... ehm... slow. For this and other bugs (f.e. with Vista it won't save Update Check prefs because still doesn't handle UAC and reduced user rights correctly. Vista came out in 2007).
Since Sun doesn't seem to be able to deal with this issue I came up with a nice simple way to deal with it myself. There are three registry entries CLSID that are related to this and by deleting them the problem is solved!
The entry in question is "DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9". Search your registry for this entry and delete the three instances and your issue is history.
Anyone with any further information on this please let me know.
