Deploying Forums 7.1.8 Today at 1:30PM PT
Oct 26, 2009 1:12 PM

Hi All,

Forums 7.1.8 will be deployed today at 1:30PM PT. The release consists of mostly minor bug fixes with a few improvements. Release notes are posted on the wiki.

During the deployment, the site will remain online, but there will most definitely be lost sessions that will require folks to re-authenticate since we are upgrading the registration & login service.

Regards,
Sun Forums Team

I confirm that the provate messaging bug is fixed, and the unacceptable performance when typing/editing a post is not fixed.

Umm.. The 'link text' problem is partially fixed, but now it is illogical.

E.G.

URL -- example: http://www.sun.com/ Link Text(optional) -- example: My Site

Who is 'me' of 'my' site if the URL is Sun? Would that be Mr (Mrs or Ms) Oracle?

I actually mostly preferred the link & text suggested by endasil.

URL -- example: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ Link Text(optional) -- example: Sun Java Tutorial

If either of those strings is 'too long' for the horizontal space, throw in a <BR> after 'example:'.

URL -- example: Link Text(optional) -- example:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ Sun Java Tutorial

I see a purge old watches on forum settings. I don't see a way to set the time period. And it doesn't say how long it is.

(I doubt 90 days would work for me, that would put about 600 watches on my second page and I don't want to see how long that takes to load.)

I can also verify that the slow Javascript performance is still very present (Ubuntu 9.04/FF 3.0.8). Guess I'm still stuck with disabling JS when typing a response.

I can confirm that the "have to use bugs to login" problem is not fix. Although it turns out bugs was no the only way in, at least recently.

I'm still seeing the same symptoms as I have been for a while. A valid login sometimes fails, after which I'm redirected to a page with a different L&F on identity.sun.com or somesuch, and then valid logins continue to fail. Where previously I would go to bugs to login at this point, lately forums.sun.com has been working. I am sure that the failed logins all had the right user/password because I use RoboForm.

I also provided this information in the "bugs to login" thread.
