I have Windows XP Home and tried to install the Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) automatic and JRE manual offline. Every time the program installs it fails with a Error 1722 before it finishes. I viewed the help file and tried using the Custom option by installing the program to a different directory (/program files/java_save, but this did not work.
I would appreciate any help with this problem. I have tried everything that is listed on the Java website. Thanks
"Choosing an installation path containing characters that are not part of the system code page - On Windows 2000, XP, and 2003, it is possible to name directories using characters that are not part of the system locale's code page. If such a directory is part of the installation path, then error 1722 occurs, and installation is not completed.
To prevent this problem, make sure that the user and system locales are identical, and that the installation path only contains characters that are part of the system locale's code page. User and system locales can be set in the Regional Options or Regional Settings control panel.
Tried that!. It's all set to English and US. Tried things suggested on other support pages like creating a new administrator account, installing to a simple directory name, uninstalled Norton, turned off firewall... What is this "targeted directory" that it can't retrieve version information from, anyway?
I'd really like to get this to work. There is more and more stuff on the internet that you just can't get to without Java working.
Nope! That wasn't it. I finally downloaded the latest JRE from the Java site, whatever version that was on 1/11/2005. That no longer gave me the installation error message, but I still couldn't run any java applets on the web. We finally found a webpage (http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/post81264.html#post81264) that reported solving the problem by registering the following DLL's manually:
Thanks for your recommendation.
I had a similar problem (Error 1722) and after spending my day I came across with your suggestion, and
I run the following:
I got "error 1722. There is a problem with this windows installer package. a program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. ..."
I downloaded it a second time and the same happened. by trying to run the above mentioned all worked out except msjava.
so it still doesn`t work :(
Somethings to try:
I see Sun has a new download package that didn't give me the message before I tried the DLL regs. So, go to http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp to download the latest, then try the steps to register the DLLs.
If that doesn't work, then try the Advanced System Optimizer from www.systweak.com. I have had lots of luck with it fixing things that didn't install right. Good luck.
Hi out there
Here is the way I could solve this problem:
1. Use "Custom" when installing
2. Create a new Directory "C:\SUN\Java\jre15002\"
(do NOT use any dots, underline, etc. (like "jre_1.5.0.02")
3. When you get the message "Could not install..." or
"Error 1722", just repeat clicking on "Retry" -> don't give up - I clicked 89 (!!) times, but then it worked
I tried it on 3 different computers and it worked with all of them (62, 68 and 89 clicks...).
My special thanks to "webbarbarian" - she/he was right suggesting to click until it works. -> see: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=14&threadID=462167
Ok guys I have so totally figured this 1722 error out. For the past 2 weeks I have been back and fourth between java support and dell support and pogo support. Just last night I figured it out!!! Ok
1- totally uninstall java from control panel
2- find a friend whos java that works, have then burn a cd of the files you need, or get the CD from java - just get the files!
explaination:
Couldn't install the program all the way - heres why
when you download them for some reason - even under manuel and offline the core zip files are empty - go to :
C - program files - Common Files - java - update - base images - j2re1.4.2-b28-
the zip files are : core 1, core 2, core 3 were totally empty, so I copied the whole java folder from common files from another computer in my house and pasted them, then re downloaded the java and the installation went through. Good Luck!
Kara
None of this "solutions" work. None mentioned in the thread either not the regs dll one, or clicking the "retry" button because there isnt one. I still get the error.
I'm trying to do a clean install of azurues and java, but I get an error with the java installer I got from the official site. Does anyone else get this error? And I cant run azurues because it says java isnt installed. I CANT install the java app on my computer. Help.
Kara, that is not a viable solution. I do not have those files and I cant get them. Why doesnt the installer have them? Where can I get an installer with everything its needs to install? Why release a installer that does not have everything it needs to install in it?
I had the same problem installing the JRE (with Azureus): Error 1722 & Missing MSJava.DLL. I ended up installing a older version of the JRE (1.4.2 Initial) and that seems to have resolved the problem. I'm going to let Azureus download and install the updates directly. Hope that helps
I got Install Shield messed up a LOT OF TIMES, where finally I have noticed that an IRC script generated a file named "program" in the C:\ root directory. This will make Windows go crazy, as it tries to access this file first, and not the Program Files directory (Where the Install Shield files are also located).
So check your root directory as well! And greets to MS for great coding.... :/
