Automatic Updates NOT Disabled across Different Users
Jan 16, 2006 8:30 AM

I have been trying to find an answer to how can I disable automatic java updates across all users of an XP-SP2 PC connecting to a MS domain.

We have a Java sensitive application that does not want to see any other version of Java besides the one installed. When we disable auto update at the Admin level, the next person to login will have auto update enabled. We are finding that we have to follow each person as they log into the PC to disable the auto updates (a logistically impossible task).

I am in a hospital environment (24 x 7 - rotating shifts) and we are viewing digitized x-rays using Ultra-Visual.

Any technical help would be greatly appreciated!

i do have the same problem, but its not just one pc. we have to disable the java-update for ca 200 XP-SP2 PCs in our AD. is there an adm-file for configuring the update-settings?

I've just found this question, whilst looking for a similar answer myself. I know its been months since this has been asked, however since no answer was presented, I went searching. I've tested this on XP SP2, however I STRONGLY advise testing this in your own test environment, before going production... create the following regfile and import it. If you have trouble, email me and I'll email it as a file if requested.

Ah ha I have the exact same problem.

It seems though that the registry entry is unique per user so importing it for different users does not work!! How annoying is that!!

Anyone else had a similar experience. I really need to know how to disable the updates for all users. The property values for JAVAUPDATE etc are applied correctly but do not work. This HKCU entry has precedence.

thanks all.

Having same problems here. Check out the following article. I have not tried this yet, but will post again after this has been tested in our environment. Please let me know if any of you test this and have sucess with it before then.
