I had this problem with JRE 1_5_0_09 - after beating it to death, I finally got it.

Note that JRE did NOT appear in my add/remove programs list - also it did not appear when I ran the windows install clean-up utility msicuu2.exe.

However, when I browsed to

\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Sun\Java

I found a folder named jre1.5.0_09 containing the MSI file which installed JRE perfectly.

I am not sure if everyone with this problem will have the JRE file there, but I imagine that if it's NOT there, placing it there from another system and then running it might also work.

good luck.

That was the perfect solution. I have been working with a window 2k3 server for a week trying to fix the problem, and finally you helped. Thanks.

Thank you. I visited www.java.com and there was no mention of this solution. Your suggestion worked perfectly.

Sincerely,

I have the same error message when I try to install jre 1_5_0_10
After that message I find the msi installer at the location specified by streigh and I install jre with no other problem.
Thanks.

Looks like another success - three days of struggle and the problem was solved in three minutes.

Many thanks Streigh

Superb, a quick search on Google brought me here, a quick browse found the .MSI file and now all installed OK.

Many thanks to Streigh - your solution also works for jre1.5.0_11

I also had the problem "error applying transforms". Thanks to your info I also corrected my problem by going into Documents & Settings, then into user, then into local settings, then application data, then sun, then java, then jre1.5.0_11, then double clicked on the jre1.5.0_11 window installer package. Fixed the problem. Many thanks to this forum, I never thought I was going to fix the problem. Nellie
